Summary:

Join Laurie Prusso, Professor of Child Development, Modesto Junior College, for a three part series on understanding young children’s behavior.

Part 1: Social Emotional Development
Social emotional development is the ongoing, progressing development of abilities in young children to play, express feelings, manage Emotions, and get along with others. Learn how biological development requires supportive interactions, and how children can demonstrate increased abilities and capabilities over time.

Part 2: Guiding Children’s Behavior
Warm, nurturing relationships with responsive adults are necessary for key areas of children’s development, including empathy and cooperation, self-regulation and cultural socialization, language and communication, peer relationships, and identity formation. Learn innovative techniques to guide behavior and how to create and sustain warm, nurturing relationships.

Part 3: Positive Discipline
This workshop will focus on Positive Discipline ©. Using the five criteria of Positive Discipline will provide a framework and tools for parents/guardians and Child Care Providers to use with children in all settings. Learn the ten reasons children most often “misbehave” and ten effective tools to use everyday.
