My name is Phyllis Houghton and I am a trainer, mentor  teacher,  Professional Growth Advisor, and photographer.  I am married to Norm Houghton and we have three children and six grandchildren.  I made the decision to be a preschool teacher after working as a co-op parent at the Martinez Parent Education Preschool in 1968, and retired from teaching at Christinasen Preschool at the end of May 2007.  Although I expected to work until the age of 67, I retired early because of a back injury.  I have twenty years of experience in day care centers, preschools, and family day care, as I have worked at Livermore Playschool, Peppertree School, and the Ark in Pleasanton, among others.  I have enjoyed helping family care providers to use the Family Day Care Rating Scale, as well as my involvement with CAPE, but my most fulfilling experience was when I became a mentor teacher in 1997, and I am now in the Enhanced Mentor Program in Alameda County.  Through this program, I attend seminars, workshops and classes.  I look forward to serving on the CCL board so that I can continue to enrich the lives of children in Alameda County.
