What is the Child Development Corps? 

The Child Development Corps is a program to reward staff that continue their professional training and join with colleagues to form a strong network of child care professionals, recognizing the importance of early care and education.

What is the goal of the Corps?  

The goal of the Corps is to improve the quality of early care and education (ECE) By:
     · Building support for early childhood educators
     · Creating incentives for providers to continue their ECE training and   
        keep working in the field
     · Establishing a strong network of early childhood professionals

Encouraging and organizing professional development experiences for early childhood professionals

 

What are the benefits of being a member of the Corps? 

Joining the Corps means that you are committed to working in ECE, and that you want to help strengthen the field. As a member, you will be rewarded with a stipend based on your level of education and special skills.

If you want to remain a member and receive a stipend in following years, you will need to take classes, attend a Corps meeting, and work to improve the quality of your ECE environment.

 

Am I eligible to join the Corps? 

If you are employed to care for children between the ages of birth and pre-kindergarten you may be able to participate in the Corps if you:

Work in Alameda County at a child-care center or family child-care home, or are a "license exempt" provider. 

Have worked in the same program for at least 20 hours per week for at least 9 months between July 1 and June 30. (Check with your Corps Advocate for exact dates) 

Have completed a minimum of 6 units ECE. 
 

 

How much will my stipend be? 

Stipend levels range from $500 -$5,100 depending on your education, training, and special skills.
