Licensing
Orientation Meeting
The
Licensing Orientation Meeting is the first step in becoming a
licensed family child care provider and is open to all
interested participants. The orientation is held on the first
Tuesday of each month at the Child Care Links Main Office in
Pleasanton, from 9:30 am until noon. The Licensing Orientation
Meeting is co-facilitated by Community Care Licensing and Child
Care Links. You will receive a certificate, application packet,
handouts and information regarding the licensing process. Child
Care Links will also offer an overview of the services provided
to potential providers.
Pre registration is required. Contact Community Care
Licensing at (510) 622-2602 to register. There is a $25
registration fee and no walk-ins will be accepted.
Child Care Links offers
the following services to residents in the Livermore, Pleasanton,
Dublin and Sunol:

- Assistance
in filing out the application

- Guidance
in preparing your home for the pre-licensing visit
|
- New Provider
Workshops on day care as a business, child development,
discipline, and health & safety

- Referrals
to LiveScan facility locations
|

- Forms
needed for provider and children’s files
|
- Toy and resource lending library for
children newborn through school age, including videos and
literature
|
- Workshops and classes on topics related to children and
childcare

Becoming a
licensed family child care provider in 7 easy steps
|
1.
APPLICATION AND ORIENTATION
Licensing
Orientation
is held on the first Tuesday of each month from 9:30 a.m. until noon
at the Child Care Links Main Office located at 1020 Serpentine Lane,
Suite 104, Pleasanton.

2.
COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
All
people living in the home 18 years of age or older will need a Criminal
Record Statement and TB Clearance must be completed and
included in your Application Packet. |

Remember to make a copy of all forms in the
Application Packet.
Community Care Licensing will return any Application
Packets that are filled out incorrectly or incompletely.
|

3.
HEALTH AND SAFETY TRAINING
Complete
the full 15 hours of Health & Safety Training.
You will need to sign up in advance as classes fill up
quickly.
Child Care Links can refer you to certified trainers.
|
4.
FINGERPRINTING
Once
your application has been approved you will received a letter with
your facility number and a LiveScan Application. LiveScan is the name of the system used to process
your fingerprints. You
can then call your local LiveScan facility locations to
schedule an appointment. The
LiveScan fingerprinting process will also include your Child
Abuse Index.

5.
SAFETY
Check
your home to make sure it is a healthy and safe environment for
children newborn to twelve years.
Be sure to have a 2A10BC or larger fire extinguisher, smoke
alarm, and first aid kit. Contact
Child Care Links if you would like a Checklist for inspection. |

A
Child Care Links staff can come out and check your home and make
suggestions on what licensing will be looking for.
This is provided as a free service to potential providers.

6. THE PRE-LICENSING VISIT
Licensing will call to schedule a visit to
your home, called a “pre-licensing visit”.
A Licensing Program Analyst (LPA) from Community Care
Licensing will visit your home.
If your home has met all health and safety requirements,
you are then officially licensed for up to 8 children.
|
|
If you have further work to complete, you will receive
directions from the LPA on what you need to complete in order to get
your license.
|
|
7. YOUR LICENSE
It will take about two weeks for your
license to arrive from Community Care Licensing in Sacramento.
|

- Referral database to match providers with parents
seeking childcare.
|
- Child Care Food Program to help cover a portion of food
costs.
|
- Subscription
to Child Care Links Newsletter and other mailings.
|
- Support concerning general family/child concerns,
parent/provider relations, and other technical assist.
|

New
Provider Training
Child
Care Links offers New Provider Training six times a
year. The meetings are
held every other month and rotate locations between Pleasanton,
Livermore and Dublin. The
New Provider Training is a three part series aimed at
educating the new provider on how to run a quality family daycare
program. Each session
is 2.5 hours long and participants that complete the series receive
a certificate from the City of Pleasanton.
These trainings are held as part of Child Care Links’
contract with the City of Pleasanton. Topics Include:
Session
1: professionalism, contracts, forms, record keeping, Child
Care Links’ Health and Nutrition Program and Referral Program
Session
2: child development, age appropriate discipline, program
planning and
activities
Session 3:
children’s records & files, child abuse reporting, illness
prevention, health & safety, and emergency preparedness
